Kevin Bush Jr. was already on a path lit by passion and family legacy when he started his entrepreneurial journey. Inspired by his father, Kevin Sr., who encouraged him to pursue a career in a field with long-term impact, Kevin began as a solar contractor and launched his first business, Illuminating Power, as a sole proprietorship. He was captivated by the solar industry’s potential but needed strategic guidance to scale his vision and compete effectively in the rapidly evolving energy sector.

Through a connection between his father and Ali Morris, Director of the Kern Inclusive Entrepreneurship Hub, Kevin was introduced to KIEH’s Strategic Growth Accelerator program. This partnership would prove transformative for both his business structure and his long-term vision.

The Kern Inclusive Strategic Growth Accelerator helped Kevin reimagine the structure and strategy of his business. With KIEH’s guidance, he converted his sole proprietorship into an LLC, launching BCS Solar and Energy Management. This strategic move laid the groundwork for long-term scalability and positioned the business to pursue larger opportunities in the expanding renewable energy sector.

“Having somebody to bounce my ideas off of, and get constructive feedback, that was a game-changer,” Kevin shared about the program’s impact. He also emphasized the value of industry connections: “Being able to point me in the direction of people that have been there, done that…that’s huge. Access like that to someone like him is something you can’t buy.”

Through KIEH, Kevin gained access to business workshops on crucial topics including business credit, angel investing, and funds management, equipping him with the financial literacy to make informed decisions. The program also introduced him to industry experts like Mr. Steiner, a mentor with firsthand experience supporting solar businesses through their challenges and successes.

One of the most significant developments was Kevin’s creation of a detailed, actionable business plan that became his strategic roadmap, clarifying goals and highlighting growth opportunities. He was also introduced to AI-integrated technology, allowing him to streamline operations, improve forecasting, and elevate BCS Solar’s performance in an industry where efficiency and innovation are paramount.

Today, BCS Solar & Energy Management provides integrated renewable energy solutions across Central California, specializing in solar power systems, battery storage, EV charging infrastructure, and prioritizing microgrid development to enhance community energy resilience. Kevin’s ambitions have evolved beyond simply succeeding in the solar industry—he now sees himself as someone determined to reshape the industry’s future.

“There’s been a passion that’s grown from it, more than anything I’ve touched or tried,” Kevin reflected. “Where I’m at now is looking towards changing the industry, not only just being a part of it, but changing it.”

The Strategic Growth Accelerator opened doors to funding channels, contracts, and industry relationships that helped scale his business from a promising startup to a serious player in the solar energy space. Kevin is not just building solar infrastructure; he’s building a legacy that demonstrates how the right support system can power entrepreneurial vision and industry transformation.
