After working in restaurants for over 20 years and relocating to Los Angeles from Dallas, Gritz N Waffles owner Jurni Rayne decided it was time to open her own place. But there were challenges in setting the business up for success including navigating Los Angeles County and State business permit processes for restaurants, formalizing financial projections, and properly hiring and onboarding new staff.
Jurni was referred to the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) hosted by PCR Business Finance(PCR). Restaurant Advisor Celeste Young-Ramos guided Jurni through entity selection, state, and local licenses, and health permits. She was coached to complete financial projections for start-up and ongoing operations including improving profitability and surviving COVID-19. Finally, she received guidance on hiring and brought on four employees, and assistance to receive LBTQ and SME certification.
“The most valuable aspect is being able to talk to an industry expert in my field who can answer my questions as they arise,” Jurni said when reflecting on the assistance she received from the SBDC.
Gritz N Wafflez has received rave reviews from patrons and was voted Best Brunch in Los Angeles and featured in the LA Times, Eater LA, and Voyage Magazine.
