Founder L.R Fox and the team at NEXT Life Sciences decided to address one of the most glaring inequities between men and women. By solving this issue, they could also address the 121 million unintended pregnancies per year, while also giving the 17 million men who are actively looking for a new contraception method that better aligns with their lifestyle and relationship an innovative solution.

Since their inception, NEXT Life Sciences has become a leader at the forefront of male reproductive health with its groundbreaking product, Plan A™, a non-hormonal, long-acting, and reversible contraceptive for men. They’ve continued to assemble their team of doctors and scientists, and also began looking for resources available for innovative small businesses that could help hone their story and define options for accessing capital.

They found the Larta Institute’s Heal.LA program, an Accelerate California Inclusive Innovation Hub (IHub), and began a pivotal part of their journey. Heal L.A connected NEXT Life Sciences with representatives from the NIH Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. This connection encouraged them to apply for non-dilutive funding, critical for their research and commercialization efforts. NEXT shared that, “the insights and connections gained from Heal.LA have proven invaluable in refining our go-to-market strategy and building relationships within the LA entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

The company recently secured a funding round of $2.5 million led by The Family, a high-impact startup accelerator, along with participation from Transform VC and several angel investors. This funding brings NEXT’s total seed funding to $4 million, positioning them strongly as they aim to bring Plan A™ to market.
